Sundance 2012 – All Good Things Must Come to and End

by Jennice Fuentes

As my stay in Park City, Utah comes to an end, I wanted to reminisce about the most exciting moments at Sundance 2012.

* Chatting at length with the hottest than hot, Jesse Williams at The Blackhouse and learning about his passion for life and his role in creating a producing company and a how that debuted in Sundance.  Hey, Grey’s Anatomy may just be a stepping stone…

* Running into Michael K. Williams (got the photo to prove it!) and Common (walked too fast…could not grab him long enough for a photo.)  Michael K. not only looks just as captivating as he does each time he is in the frame of any show or movie…but he also smells  good!

* Spending a lot of quality time with the remarkable, talented, and beautiful cast of the Hip Hop marvel, Filly Brown.  This is the real family affair…with Edward James Olmos producing his son’s Michael’s movie…which reunites Eddie and Lou Diamond Phillips on screen…and gives her first acting credit to Nortena music star, Jeni Rivera.  As I said. This was a big, fat, family affair.

* Watching a star being born: new singer and young actress and Chicago native Gina Rodriguez deserves to be a huge star…may she reach those heights…

* Watching Tracy Morgan faint…for exhaustion apparently at the Creative Coalition party.

* Watching Spike Lee get angry (not new) and berate Hollywood for not knowing a thing about black people (well…hes got a point…)

* Watching some of the coolest documentaries soon to hit the big screen: Queen of Versailles (some folks just don’t know what to do with so much money…); Under the African Skies (the ultra cool and super well-made documentary about the making of Paul Simon’s “greatest achivement” (his words not mine…although I do agree!) – the album Graceland  and the too hard to believe story behind a crazy friend dude who tried to fool the world posing as someone he was not…in “The Impostor”.

* Looking and looking but not finding anything close to the Conga Room…or any salsa or meregue band playing in Park City for that matter…

* Confirming that Kristen Bell is really the tiniest actor I have ever met (and one of the loveliest for sure…he fiancee…Dax, totally camera shy…or so he says…)

* Having a beer at the No Name Saloon with Irish Actor Alan O’Neill…

* Almost getting a free tattoo at the Miami Oasis Lounge…but settling instead for a free hairdo…

* Getting a year’s supply Bert bees products…

* Having some serious Mojitos between the hours of noon and 3 pm…in between screenings…getting my Mojo right for the 3rd screening of the day…

* Running into Sean Young at the Sundance Channel headquarters and being a little scared…

* Running into Occupy Sundance and not being scared at all…

* Playing KINECT at the Bing bar after party of the Simon Killer screening…

* Finding a brass band and realizing I was far from New Orleans…

* Realizing that one should NOT rely on the shuttle bus to get anywhere…and that cars are really undervalued at Sundance

* It would be impossible to pick one favorite out of the many films at Sundance, but I was so moved by Marina Abramovic The Artist is Present, expect the unexpected and check out the trailer below.Until next year.
